L-Band Switch Matrix

The 1 - 2 GHz Switch Matrix system is designed to be utilized in a satellite communications ground station application. This system sits between the up/down converters and the system modems in order to route the signals to their required paths. The system is designed to be expandable from a base configuration of 12 converters by 48 modems to a maximum configuration of 24 converters to 192 modems. This architecture can be used in a wide variety of installation sizes. Signal fidelity in the unit performance is critical, and this unit responds with exceptional isolation and intercept signal performance. This very high signal fidelity allows for many signals to be routed through matrix simultaneously, while not degrading the quality of the other signals being routed. The unit is controlled using an advanced internal controller, communicating through both front panel keypad and display, and via Ethernet TCP/IP. Built in test features monitor signal paths as well as support circuitry for failures and provide recommendations for service. This system can be custom configured for customer’s individual needs. Crane Aerospace & Electronics, Microwave Solutions, introduces a new, high-performance flexible switch matrix system designed for Satellite Communications applications. The L-Band Switch Matrix is designed to offer flexible configurations from 12x48 up to 24x192 for smaller to larger ground station installations. The matrices are configured to accommodate growth through field upgrade in future applications without having to replace the entire system. The L-Band Switch Matrix offers performance not achieved previously with systems of this size. With an Output 3rd Order Intercept Point of +34 dBm on the receive channel, and an Input 3rd Order Intercept Point of +43 dBm for the transmit channel, the system offers exceptional linearity. This minimizes the cross-talk and potential spurious generation, insuring that multiple simultaneous signals passing through the matrix can do so with minimal distortion. This feature would be present in lower-performance systems. Additionally, a noise figure of 25 dB on the receive system and 38 dB on the transmit system minimize the distortion of the signals.
